#SuperFlashBack JBC Telkom 2013 Paper Competition

Assalamu'alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

It has been more than a year when this event, conducted by the Business School of Telkom University, Bandung, occured. Partnering with two awesome hyperactive people in the team, namely Hani Rosdahlia and Amalia, transformed one of their fabulous course project into the paper named "IMPLEMENTASI IT BALANCED SCORECARD SEBAGAI ADDED VALUE DALAM KESELARASAN STRATEGI BISNIS DENGAN PENERAPAN TEKNOLOGI INFORMASI PADA INSTITUSI PENDIDIKAN STUDI KASUS: PERGURUAN AL AZHAR JAWA TIMUR". Nevertheless, the paper had a closer relationship to IT Management type of course, of which I hadn't recognize much at the moment.

The initiative to compete started when I visited Hani Rosdahlia (Hani) at her internship place. We had an internship in the same company, PT Pertamina, but different place and division. At that time, I proposed to her to do the "thing" as well as the main theme of the competition related well to her department, Information System. At the end of the conversation, we had agreed to have another team member and would had the paper finished (or started) after the internship ended.

In a few months, we had another discussion within the update of the joining team members, namely Amalia (Amal), which is our friend also. At that time, we concluded that in the accordance to the theme of the paper competition, which accompanies to Hani and Amal's previous works, and it sounded nice. Then, in the weekend, surprisingly (near the deadline... yes! I'm a deadliner person!), I compressed nearly 60 pages of the work into 30 page-formatted-for-the-competition in less than 48 hours, finished the payment, created the personal statement of the originality of the paper, and so on (of course, by the aid of my creative partners). Around the 23.00 WIB, I sent the paper to their email, hoped that they would found them safely.

-----------------------------------Around a month later-----------------------------------

After the flight from Jakarta, participated in the third YLI Forum of Wave 5, I thought a lightning had strucked me while I was opening the text message in my phone. It told me that our team had successfully passed into finals of the Paper Competition of JBC. Alhamdulillah, Actually, I should had been happy, but that meant also that we had to administer few (if it was not extremely panicking, it is exhausting) businesses to had our ticket to Bandung reimbursed, our life at Bandung guaranteed, and so on. In addition, it was our (errr... not me, it's Hani and Amals's) busy time, preparing the regeneration for the "Pemandu FTIF", as well as Hani and me had to leave our lovely Breakthrough team busy time (soooo many trainings of paper writing of PKM that time, sorry guys!). Nevertheless, ready or not, we had to prepare well to achieve the best effort at the competition (surely some revisions in the presentation and the paper not too much but yet, we had to spent some time to do it, really).

At the departure, it was the "rempong"-est time, like my every departure. I brought a really big luggage to the campus, and everyone was like: "Where are you going? GEMASTIK departure is still at the end of this week, isn't it?". Errr I stated that I have other competition in Bandung that I had to finish before GEMASTIK, so that I had to stay in Bandung for a day between those two competitions (it was a fate, and I was really thankful to Allah to have this "tight" opportunity), and I concluded also that I would had been absent in the Study Excursion event (sorry guys!), even if it also occured in Bandung, but I already calculated my time: too much exhaustion --> I will be crazy and stay in the bed for a few days. Hard choice, but, I was satisfied.

Oh to be pleased also, I'd like to introduce also my friend, Ulin, who accompanied us during the departure, using the taxi and train to Bandung. She said that she would had some business to do there. Okay, the more the merrier. In a hopeful journey, we started railing all way through Surabaya to Bandung! "Kumaha Damang?"

The journey, as expected, worked out well, with some (noisy) chitchats, Sego Jamoer, and some books (selfie was not yet popular that time, if it were... we should create a photo album). And we arrived at Bandung, safe and sound, Alhamdulillah. Prepared for some few things, the committees (they were so kind) had us fetched by to the Telkom University, Buah Batu.... around 1 hour trip. Since it was Friday, I had to prepare for Sholat Jumat while my partners were discussing our plan after (take some runaway journey from the competition schedule, not too good, but yes it was our first time to be there, except me).

In the inn, after the runaway trip, we planned to have a rehearsal at 9 PM. Meanwhile, I said that I should go to my room first, have a rest. Well, to be honest, I was slept and made my friends gone crazy. Not so nice but... Again my deepest apologies for you, partners. Then, at 5 AM in the morning just before the competition, we did our rehearsal.

During the trip, with other teams, we had our breakfast with the "nasi uduk". A little bit expensive but it was Bandung, and it was okay with us. Then, the competition started with the opening ceremony. What amazed us that, we had just realized that the competition was big and sophisticated. Yet, we thought that it was just a simple competition but not! Best regards to the committees!

The competition of the paper itself commenced by the introduction of the jurys, which in our view, were awesome. They had written numerous papers in the journals, yet a bunch of books, and were very expert in information technology related with business. To be honest, we were nervous, but we were trying to perform our best during the presentation. Nevertheless, we were "slaughtered" (thanks to deadliners work [me]) in case of the paper.

However, those "slaughterings" were not reasons to stop exploring Bandung. Our plan to go out (again) was executed well to buy souvenirs from the Paris van Java. Well, that trip left me several things about 'waiting the ladies in shopping trip', I know that feel really well. However, another kindness of the committees showed up, they fetched us from the commercial center to the university again! We were really grateful to them. A very great service from JBC Telkom Committees 2013.

Yet, later that night, we were hunting some foods to be brought to the inn. As well as calculating moneys, and doing some responsibilities report (finances, how the competition done, and so on to be reported at our campus' bureaucracy). As well as we knew that we hadn't get any awards from the Paper competition, this trip was just so... memorable and a great experience for us. Alhamdulillah.

In the morning in the next day, we were informed that there should be a sunday market near the Telkom University. Much surprises to our knowledge, it was huge, and caused dense-traffic-jam-in-the-alleys. To just move our feet by an inch (not by any vehicle), we had just need to wait several seconds, it was not a simple crowd in a sunday market. Well, the condition was awful, but the positive things were, we could found a various culinary of Bandung there. Here comes Seblak, Basreng, and their families. Again, additional surprises, we had our nice breakfast by those nourishments to be visited by a "banci" using hijab, and singing some songs. And we had fallen into silence, with our round eyes, to see that phenomenon. Of course, that was not normal, even in common news.

So far, we were not coming to the closing ceremony that day, because my partners' train were departing at the time. Meanwhile, I had to go to my friend's, Ichsan, house to follow the other competition named GEMASTIK. Repeating some words, it was a meaningful competition in my life, I was not a competition enthusiast, I was not so clever to find some ideas, but yet I have my friends and willingness to empower our dreams and level up our capacity, plus let our ideas criticized and improved for people's sake.

Big thanks to Hani, Amal, Ulin, Ichan, Ayu, Reno, and everyone who contributed in this journey.

Hope this writing can entertain and make the readers feeling better. Cheers. Critics and comments are greatly welcomed! Sorry (again and again) if I had my grammar or mistake in the storytelling.
